Hello! If you're interested in gaining support for your anxiety and/or depression in a group setting, then you're in the right place.

I, Isha Aggarwal, am a psychotherapist in Bangalore who has been working for four years and specializes in psychodynamic + somatic therapy for those with trauma histories, anxiety, depression, highly sensitive people, and more. Learn more about me here.

I decided to start this group because I know how valuable it is to have group spaces inperson. Being around people in person can help ease loneliness, creates a felt sense of support, and allows for new connections with likeminded people.

This group is a drop-in, open group for anyone experiencing challenges in relation to their mood, stress levels, anxiety, loneliness, melancholy, and overwhelm. You don't have to be formally diagnosed to attend. This is an ongoing group and you don’t have to commit to a certain number of sessions - you can come for one and see how you feel!

Why come to this support group?

Anxiety and depression can be deeply isolating. Even when you have supportive people in your life, it can be difficult to explain what you're experiencing to someone who hasn't been through something similar. Sometimes you need a space where you can be honest about how you're doing, without having to minimise it or pretend you're okay.

A support group offers something unique: the experience of being understood by people who are navigating some of the same struggles.

Feel less alone

Anxiety and depression can make you feel like you're the only person struggling this much, especially when everyone around you seems to be functioning normally. Hearing other people talk openly about their experiences can help reduce that sense of isolation and remind you that your struggles are more common than they may feel.

Be understood without having to explain everything

There is something different about being around people who already understand what it can be like to overthink everything, lose motivation, withdraw from others, feel emotionally exhausted, or have good days followed by difficult ones. You don't have to find the perfect words to make your experience make sense.

Build practical tools for difficult moments

The group will include psychoeducation, reflection and practical strategies that you can experiment with between sessions. These might include mindfulness, grounding, emotional regulation, nervous-system supportive practices, self-reflection and ways of responding differently to difficult thoughts and emotions.

The aim isn't to give you a giant list of things you should be doing. It's to help you discover what actually feels useful and sustainable for you.

Practice connection

When we're struggling with anxiety or depression, it's easy to withdraw, isolate or feel disconnected from other people. A support group gives you an opportunity to gently practice being seen, heard and connected while still having control over how much you share.

For some people, the experience of showing up as they are and being met with acceptance can itself be meaningful.

Have somewhere to come back to

Because this is an ongoing, drop-in group, you don't have to commit to a fixed-length programme or wait until things become overwhelming before seeking support.

You can come when you need a little more connection, perspective or support, while still having the option to step back when you don't need it.

Share what you're going through in a supportive environment

You don't have to carry everything privately. The group gives you a regular space to talk about what's been difficult, reflect on what's happening in your life, and put words to experiences that can sometimes feel confusing or overwhelming.

You are also never required to share more than you're comfortable with. You can participate at your own pace.

Learn from other people's experiences

Sometimes another person's story gives you a perspective that you couldn't find on your own. You may recognise yourself in someone else's experience, discover a new way of approaching a familiar problem, or simply realise that there are many different ways of experiencing anxiety and depression.

The group isn't about giving each other unsolicited advice or trying to “fix” one another. It's about sharing perspectives, experiences and support.

Learn more about your own patterns

Each session will include opportunities to learn about different aspects of anxiety, depression, emotional wellbeing and coping. Understanding what is happening within you can make difficult experiences feel less confusing and more manageable.

We may explore things like overthinking, avoidance, self-criticism, emotional regulation, loneliness, relationships, boundaries, stress and building supportive coping strategies.

FAQs

Is this group therapy?

No. This is a therapist-facilitated support group, not group therapy. The focus is on peer connection, shared experiences, psychoeducation, reflection and practical strategies for navigating anxiety, depression and emotional difficulties. It is not a substitute for individual psychotherapy or psychiatric care.

Do I need to have a diagnosis of anxiety or depression to join?

No. You don't need a formal diagnosis to participate. The group is for adults who are experiencing anxiety, low mood, emotional overwhelm, loneliness, overthinking, loss of motivation or related difficulties and feel that connecting with others could be helpful.

Do I have to talk or share personal things?

No. You are welcome to participate at your own pace. Sharing is encouraged, but you will never be required to disclose anything you're not comfortable discussing. You can also simply listen and participate in other ways.

Is the group confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality is an important part of creating a safe group environment. Members are expected to respect each other's privacy and not share identifying or personal information about other participants outside the group. At the beginning of the group, we'll establish clear shared agreements around confidentiality and respectful participation.

Can I attend just one session, or do I have to commit to the whole group?

You can attend on a drop-in basis. This is an ongoing support group, so there is no fixed-length commitment. You can join for individual sessions depending on what feels useful and appropriate for you. Because each session will have its own theme and structure, you can join even if you haven't attended previous sessions.

Do you offer support between sessions?

Yes. Group members will also have access to a private WhatsApp community between sessions. This is a space to stay connected, share reflections, exchange encouragement and access occasional prompts and resources between meetings.

You might find a check-in prompt from me, share a small win, ask a general question, or simply read along and feel connected to the group.

The WhatsApp group is not a crisis-support service or a substitute for individual therapy, and messages are not monitored continuously. Members will also be asked to respect the same principles of confidentiality and psychological safety that apply during group meetings.
