burnout + nervous system Healing

What is burnout?

Burnout isn't just about being tired. It's what happens when your nervous system has been running on overdrive for so long that it genuinely cannot keep up anymore. You might feel it as an exhaustion that no amount of sleep seems to touch, or a strange numbness that has crept in around the things you used to love. Maybe you're still showing up, still getting things done, but something on the inside has gone very quiet. That quietness isn't weakness and it isn't laziness. It's your body and mind finally saying enough.

Burnout usually builds slowly, which is why it so often catches people off guard. It's rarely one thing. More often it's the accumulation of too much, for too long, with not nearly enough rest or care in between. And if you've spent years masking, overgiving, or simply trying to fit into spaces that were never quite designed for you, burnout can feel less like hitting a wall and more like the wall quietly falling down around you.

How therapy can help

Healing from burnout begins with slowing down enough to actually listen to what your body has been trying to tell you. In our work together, that's often where we start. Learning to recognise your own signals before they reach a breaking point. Understanding what truly restores you, not just what distracts you from how depleted you feel. Gently rebuilding a relationship with yourself that isn't entirely built on what you produce or how well you hold it together.

We also look at what led here in the first place. The beliefs around rest and worthiness that made it so hard to stop. The patterns of pushing through that once felt necessary and now feel like a trap. My hope for you isn't that you get back to who you were before burnout. Often, that version of you was already running too close to empty. What we work towards together is something more sustainable and more honest. A way of living that actually has room in it for you.

I am also trained in Level 1 of Somatic Experiencing, a 3-year certification program meant to train practitioners to understand the nervous system and help it heal through body-based awareness and techniques. We explore what your dominant nervous system state is (fight, flight, freeze, fawn), and address it through somatic techniques and exercises. This is an effective way to release trapped emotions/energy in the body and have a flexible, adaptive nervous system that allows you to access a variety of emotions and nervous system states.
